Providers we list are ones we have β or are seeking β an affiliate relationship with, so this is not a survey of the whole market. Commission never affects our editorial rankings, which are our own assessment β see how we rate. Trading involves significant risk of loss.
Risk warning: CFDs and leveraged products carry a high risk of rapid loss. The majority of retail investor accounts lose money trading them. Futures brokers are priced by commission per contract, not spreads, so βpipsβ and βcommission-basedβ are not directly comparable β and a 0.0-pip raw spread never includes the commission charged on top. Minimum deposits, leverage caps, product availability and investor protection depend on the entity that serves your country, and several brokers listed do not accept clients from every jurisdiction. Our verdict on eToro
eToro is one of the two entries here where you can actually own crypto such as BTC, ETH and SOL, alongside stocks, ETFs and CFD products, wrapped in a simple platform with copy trading built in. It is not built for short-term precision trading: spreads from around 1 pip are wide and there is no MT4, MT5 or exchange-traded futures access.
Best for
- βTraders who want to hold real crypto and shares rather than CFD exposure to them
- βNewer participants who want a single simple platform with no account or inactivity fees
Look elsewhere if
- βShort-term FX or index traders β spreads from about 1 pip and limited order tooling work against you
- βTraders who need MT4, MT5 or exchange-traded ES, NQ and GC futures
Watch out:Crypto services are not covered by MiFID, CySEC or FSCS investor protection, so the asset that most people come here for is the one sitting outside those safeguards. Minimum deposit also varies widely by country, from $50 up to $10,000.
Pricing and the true cost of trading
Costs are carried in the spread rather than charged as commission, with EUR/USD starting from about 1 pip β noticeably wider than the raw-spread accounts at Pepperstone or IC once their $3.50 per lot commission is included. Crypto carries a separate 1% buy/sell fee; read the fee schedule for your region to confirm whether that applies once or on each side, since a round trip could cost up to 2% of position value before any price movement. On a position held for months that is a modest drag; on anything traded frequently it is a significant and easily underestimated cost.
There are no account opening, management or inactivity fees, which suits an account that sits idle between decisions. The minimum deposit is where the surprises live: it varies by country from $50 to $10,000, so the entry cost you read in a review may bear no relation to what applies where you live. Check the figure for your own country of residence before planning a first deposit, particularly if you were intending to start small and scale up as a process rather than a leap.
What you actually own, and what covers it
The distinguishing feature is genuine ownership. You can buy and hold real crypto assets including BTC, ETH and SOL, subject to regional availability, plus stocks and ETFs β not CFD proxies for them. Most brokers in this list give you crypto exposure only through derivatives β CFD brokers such as Pepperstone, IC and IG offer crypto CFDs where you never touch the underlying. Interactive Brokers is the other route to spot crypto here, but only for eligible clients and outside SIPC protection. If holding the asset matters to your plan, that is a real structural difference rather than a marketing distinction.
The protection picture is uneven and needs stating plainly. eToro holds CySEC, FCA, ASIC, FSRA and Seychelles FSA authorisations, with US clients under FINRA and SEC-registered US entities, but crypto services are not covered by MiFID, CySEC or FSCS investor protection. US clients get stocks, ETFs, options and crypto with no CFDs at all. Copy trading and Smart Portfolios are built in, and it is worth remembering that copying another account transfers their risk-taking to your balance without transferring their circumstances or their exit discipline.
Pros
- + Buy and hold real crypto assets including BTC, ETH and SOL (availability varies by region)
- + No account opening, management or inactivity fees
- + Copy trading and Smart Portfolios built into the platform
Cons
- β EUR/USD spreads from about 1 pip are wide for short-term traders
- β No MT4/MT5, no exchange-traded futures, limited advanced order tooling
