Providers we list are ones we have β or are seeking β an affiliate relationship with, so this is not a survey of the whole market. Commission never affects our editorial rankings, which are our own assessment β see how we rate. Trading involves significant risk of loss.
Risk warning: CFDs and leveraged products carry a high risk of rapid loss. The majority of retail investor accounts lose money trading them. Futures brokers are priced by commission per contract, not spreads, so βpipsβ and βcommission-basedβ are not directly comparable β and a 0.0-pip raw spread never includes the commission charged on top. Minimum deposits, leverage caps, product availability and investor protection depend on the entity that serves your country, and several brokers listed do not accept clients from every jurisdiction. Our verdict on Tradovate
Tradovate is a cloud-first way into the same brokerage as NinjaTrader β one login across browser, desktop and mobile, with micro futures from $0.09 per side on the Lifetime plan. If you already know you want that FCM, the real question is which interface suits you, because the commissions and the clearing firm are identical either way.
Best for
- βTraders who want one cloud login working identically across browser, desktop and mobile
- βUS-listed futures traders who prefer a lightweight interface to a heavy desktop install
Look elsewhere if
- βTraders wanting forex, stocks or spot crypto β the account covers US-listed futures products only
- βTraders treating it as a cheaper or separate alternative to NinjaTrader; it is neither
Watch out:Your account sits at NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC (NFA ID 0309379), the same FCM behind NinjaTrader and owned by Kraken since 2025, on the same pricing. Opening both does not diversify anything β it gives you two windows onto one brokerage relationship.
Same FCM, different front end
The most useful thing to understand about Tradovate is what it is not: it is not an independent competitor to NinjaTrader. Both route to NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC, both quote from $0.09 per side on micros under the Lifetime plan, and both are owned by Kraken since 2025. Comparison tables that list them as separate options are describing interfaces, not brokerages. That matters if you were planning to split capital between two firms to reduce single-firm exposure, because in this pairing there is only one firm to be exposed to.
What remains a real decision is workflow. Tradovate is built cloud-first, so the browser, desktop and mobile apps share one login and one state, and TradingView or the NinjaTrader front end can be pointed at the same account. NinjaTrader's own desktop leans towards heavier local charting and market replay. Neither is objectively better; the honest test is which one you will still be comfortable operating during a fast session in NQ, when the interface is the thing standing between an intention and a filled order.
Market access and cost realism
Access is US-listed futures, futures options and event contracts. There is no spot forex, no equities and no spot crypto ownership, so crypto exposure through this account means listed futures products rather than holding BTC, ETH or SOL. For traders whose whole plan sits in ES, NQ, YM and GC, that limitation is largely academic. For anyone wanting a single account across asset classes, Interactive Brokers or Saxo cover far more ground, at a higher per-contract futures cost in IBKR's case and roughly $1 per CME contract in Saxo's.
On price, the $0.09 per side figure belongs to the Lifetime plan and its one-time licence cost, so it is not the number most new accounts will pay. Work out your realistic monthly contract count first, then compare plans against that, rather than anchoring on the lowest advertised tier. Day-trade margins from $50 on micro index futures are presented as a feature, but a margin that small means a modest adverse move in MNQ can wipe out a large share of a small account. Leverage magnifies losses at exactly the same rate as gains.
Pros
- + Cloud platform usable from browser, desktop and mobile with one login
- + Micro futures from $0.09 per side on the Lifetime plan
- + Day-trade margins from $50 on micro index futures β high leverage magnifies losses as well as gains
Cons
- β Same FCM and same commissions as NinjaTrader β a front-end choice, not a cheaper broker
- β US-listed futures only; no forex, stocks or spot crypto
