How we analyse YM
We build the session volume profile to identify the point of control (POC) and value area high and low (VAH/VAL) as key levels. The average range sets realistic YM targets, we watch liquidity sweeps above prior highs or below prior lows, and we form a multi-timeframe bias by aligning the 1H, 4H and 1D structure. This is educational analysis only, not a signal.
What moves YM
- DJIA constituent earnings — Because the Dow is price-weighted, the highest-priced members move YM the most on earnings.
- US macro data (CPI, payrolls, ISM) — Inflation, jobs and manufacturing surprises shift the whole blue-chip index around release times.
- Federal Reserve policy — Rate decisions and guidance reprice equity valuations and set the broad tone for YM.
- Trade, tariff and industrial-cycle news — The Dow's industrial and cyclical tilt makes it sensitive to trade and tariff headlines.
- Broad risk sentiment — As a US large-cap proxy, YM follows risk-on/risk-off flows alongside ES and NQ.
Its price-weighted, 30-stock underlying and whole-point tick make it a straightforward instrument for expressing views on US blue chips. See full YM contract specs & where to trade.
YM trading sessions
YM trades on CME Globex (CBOT) from Sunday 6:00 p.m. to Friday 5:00 p.m. ET, with a daily 5:00–6:00 p.m. ET maintenance break. Its most active session is the US regular trading hours (RTH), 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET, aligned with the New York equity open where blue-chip flows concentrate.
Typical daily range
Average range (AIR) is the mean high-to-low distance of a session, used as a realistic intraday target. YM is quoted in whole index points with a one-point tick, so its point range reads larger in nominal points than ES even though dollar value per point is smaller. The figure should be recalculated from recent sessions.
Markets correlated with YM
YM moves in the same risk-on/risk-off direction as ES and NQ, but its 30-stock, price-weighted, blue-chip base makes it less tech-driven than NQ. It often lags NQ on rate-sensitive days and can diverge modestly when high-priced Dow members report earnings.
Previous YM sessions
2026-07-24
Today's AIR window ≈ 51577–52122 → price is testing the top edge; sustained trade above 52122 that reclaims 52600 would be the bullish tell, otherwise the band caps. ATR(1H) ≈ 96 pts (wide) — size accordingly. YM is the third index deep below weekly value today. Educational only — react at levels, don't anticipate.
2026-07-23
Today's AIR window ≈ 52305–52886 → targets inside this band are credible; VAH W-1 (53000+) sits outside = ambitious. ATR(1H) ≈ 107 pts (wide) — size accordingly. React at levels, wait for the reclaim — don't anticipate.

› Is YM bullish or bearish today?
As of 2026-07-27, our read on E-mini Dow ($5) (YM) is: bullish (1H/1D), 4H sell. We map the levels where price has historically reacted rather than predicting direction — the full multi-timeframe bias and plan are posted free on Telegram each session.
› What is a realistic daily target on YM futures?
A realistic YM target is framed against its average intraday range (AIR), the mean high-to-low distance of recent sessions. Because YM is quoted in whole index points, its range reads large in nominal points; each point is worth $5. The figure varies with volatility and should be recomputed from recent data.
› What are YM futures trading hours?
YM (E-mini Dow) trades on CME Globex, listed on CBOT, from Sunday 6:00 p.m. to Friday 5:00 p.m. ET, with a daily maintenance break from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. ET. The most active session is US regular hours, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.
› How much is one YM tick worth?
One YM tick is a whole 1.00 index point and is worth $5.00 per contract, because the E-mini Dow is sized at $5 per index point. Unlike ES and NQ, YM ticks in full points, not quarter-points. The Micro E-mini Dow (MYM) is one-tenth the size, at $0.50 per point.
› What moves Dow (YM) futures?
YM is driven by earnings from the 30 DJIA constituents, US macro data such as CPI, payrolls and ISM, Federal Reserve policy, and trade, tariff and industrial-cycle news. Because the Dow is price-weighted, its highest-priced members have the largest impact on YM.
› Why does the Dow (YM) sometimes move differently from the Nasdaq (NQ)?
YM tracks 30 price-weighted blue-chip stocks with limited tech weight, while NQ concentrates high-beta technology mega-caps. On rate-sensitive or tech-driven days NQ can move much more than YM, and high-priced Dow earnings can make YM diverge. This is educational information, not advice.
› What does price-weighted mean for YM?
Price-weighted means each Dow stock's influence depends on its share price, not its market value, so the highest-priced members drive YM the most. A large percentage move in a low-priced Dow stock affects the index less than a similar move in a high-priced one. Educational information only.
› ES vs YM: what is the difference?
ES tracks the market-cap-weighted S&P 500 (500 stocks) at $50 per point, while YM tracks the price-weighted Dow (30 blue-chips) at $5 per point with whole-point ticks. ES is broader and more diversified; YM is concentrated in fewer, larger-priced names. Educational information only.
› Where can I get free YM analysis?
Free daily E-mini Dow ($5) analysis — bias, key levels and one educational setup — is published every session on Telegram at @dindoutrading. This page mirrors the latest read; the full plan is on the channel.
› Does Dindou Trading give YM signals?
No. Everything is educational analysis of price structure — we never tell anyone what to buy or sell, and there is no paid signal service.
